ACADEMICS

Curriculum

The academic year at Ashok Hall Girls' Residential School consists of two terms : March to July, with a three-week break in August and again from August to December, with a winter break in December. The winter break commences in the last week of December. Students of classes X and XII are required to report to school in February for the ICSE and ISC board examinations respectively. Students promoted to Classes X and XII report to the school in the first week of March and students of Classes IV to IX report back in the third week of March. Senior secondary students have the option of selecting Science, Commerce or Humanities streams. A student's academic progress is ascertained by her performance in monthly tests, half-yearly and final examinations. Detailed subject reports, housemistress’ reports and medical reports are sent to parents to apprise them about the comprehensive progress of their wards.

Seminars

Classes IX-XII hold subject specific seminars to share their specialist information with other seniors. Frequently adopting the format of power-point presentations, debates and discussions, these seminars enable the senior students to enhance both their presentation skills as well as their own knowledge.

Parents’ Interactions

PTMs are held every term and provide an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers to review the work that has been covered and the development of every child. Weekly phone call turns are arranged for the students to talk to their parents.

Assembly

Each week is dedicated to a different theme for the overall presentation during the morning assembly. Each class takes a turn to present the assembly for a week and is guided by the chosen theme. Themes have included: The Charms of Poetry, The World of Plants, The Mystery of the Universe, Films and Media, Ancient Literature, Animal Kingdom, Festivals of India, Indian Culture.

Teachers' Talk

The morning assembly session is the time for the teachers to deliver special motivational and inspirational thoughts to guide the students.

Field Trips

Students visit various industrial plants. Amongst these have been Class X and XII students’ visit to the Century Pulp and Paper.
